Victoria McCargar
Victoria McCargar is a nationally (U.S.) recognized digital archives consultant and veteran journalist whose research focus is the long-term access to digital objects in news archives. She worked at the Los Angeles Times for more than 25 years in both news and access technology, participating in numerous innovative digitization projects in various media. She is currently conducting an analysis for the Center for Research Libraries to develop long-term preservation criteria for news archives systems. She is a contributor to the international preservation consortium InterPARES and was a member of the Library of Congress’ PREMIS committee developing metadata for long-term preservation. This year, the News Division of the Special Libraries Assn. presented her with its David Rhydwen award for scholarly research benefiting news librarianship. She holds master’s degrees in library and information science from UCLA and in science and medical reporting from the University of Missouri School of Journalism.
