ASTRA MUSEUM

It has become one of the most representative open air museum in Europe. In an impressive space, of 96 ha (237 acres), covered by 10 km of walkways, with numerous resting places, there are two permanent and distinct exhibitions, which are clearly from another time and space. Presently the complex has 35,240 objects forming the base of the future ASTRA Transylvanian Civilization Museum in a modern innovating conception. The diversion offered to the visiting public is extremely varied, from rowing by fishing boats on the lake, to driving by carriage or riding in a sledge by horses on the walkways, from visiting by minibuses, to traditional culinary in the little pub or the inn, and the accommodation (53 places). This is the most generous and hospitable offer in Sibiu, Romania and it can be found in the Open - Air Museum in Dumbrava Sibiului ( Sibiu’s Forest). Its gates are generously opened during the whole year, day and night .For nocturne visits, there is a system of light spots and sensational effects. The museum provides guiding, leaflets, CDs, films, etc. Karen Fogg (the chief of the Permanent Delegation of European Commission in Romania) declared about the museum from Dumbrava Sibiului ( Sibiu’s Forest). Michelin Guide would write only this: “it’s worth doing a way round, it does not matter how long, to see this museum.
